Our Sad Realization in Rescue
One of the things you don't think about when starting a rescue is that some of the dogs you've rescued and re-homed might go over the rainbow bridge. While our very first rescue Sasha is still alive, there are several huskies that have touched our hearts that are no longer with us and we want to remember. Great Warrior Chief DAKOTA. He was not a rescue but was our first lead dog at our very first event. Even with arthritis setting in, he trained another to take over. Beverly and Melvin Smeltzer were his owners and own his grandsons who they will train to follow in his footsteps. CLIPPER - a handsome fellow after his hair grew out. When we got him from the shelter, someone had shaved all his hair off (a no no). The best way to describe him is he was "our little 2 year old boy in shorts and cowboy boots". He was in our first Serum Run re-enactment with his husky sister and his mom-Pat on a trike. He and Seiko would give a short sledding demonstration for people around the park in Damascus. He too shall be missed. Diesel - an older dog, had cancer. LONDON - a 12 week old puppy had a tumor. Her breeder told the owner that gave her to us that "it is probably just asthma like her mother has" --- BACKYARD BREEDER . Spirit, Megan, & all those in the future that will add valuable memories to our lives, then leave a space.
