Jessie (Isis brother) - owners Marcia & Bob Horne
* Cruiser is an Alaskan Husky that was in the 2006 Iditarod (Trent Herbst -musher).
Cruiser is owned by Bob and Marcia and is from Iditarod Champion Martin Buser line.
His parents were Neon and Arson. When we first got Cruiser he was timid. BUT NOW he
comes in the house and wags his tail. Loves to have Marcia sing to him and likes his massages.
Most of the team are rescued shelter dogs.
Sam and Jenny Akers of Blacksburg VA also have rescued dogs that
do dryland mushing and presentations for our rescue.
They are considered part of the Black Diamond Trail Seekers.
Black Diamond is another name for coal &
the region of Southwest Virginia that we proudly represent.
Members of The Black Diamond Trail Seekers have performed at many presentations including schools, Boy Scouts of America, The Biltmore Estate in Asheville NC, and each year we do a re-enactment of the 1925 Alaska Serum Run, a relay on the VA Creeper Trail from Abingdon to Damascus VA. See the Alaska Serum Run page on our website.
Some have been in the Blue Ridge Dryland Challenge - a dogsledding race our rescue hosts, as well as other sled dog races.
As the team gets older new sled dogs are needed.
