Blue Ridge Dryland Mushers

Sled Dog Club - A division of the Rescue

 

A new club website is being designed separate from our rescue page.  A link will connect to it upon completion.

 

       On February 9, 2008 the rescue held a meeting to discuss The Blue Ridge Dryland Mushers sled dog club as a division of our rescue.  The group in attendance accepted By laws, Code of Ethics, and Membership Dues and the club division of our rescue began.

MEMBERS,
This will be our 2nd year for the club. .
Club members join to be part of a happy group that works with their sled dogs.
This year -
We have added state Directors to have a branch of the club in every state.
Presently we have the following people who have volunteered:
 Jeff Blewett in Kentucky and
 Jessee Osborne in North Carolina, and
 Rodney Whaley in Tennessee.  Rodney was in the 2008 Iditarod
 This will help groups grow in each state.  People like you, closer to you for fun runs, working together training, and making it easier to get together.
 
Nov 21, the Siberian Husky Assist RESCUE is holding a beginners dogsledding class.
 
 
***Nov. 14 & 15 at Land Between the Lakes in TN - POSTPONED DUE TO UNUSUALLY WARM WEATHER.  Jeff and Rodney will have a fun run weekend.  ( They are working on The Music City Dryland Race near Nashville TN for some time in February - details as we get them).
 
Dec 11-13 Wilson's Creek Fun Run - Newland, North Carolina.  See Jessee our North Carolina club Director for information.  Here is a link to information on this fun run that is on her website:
 
 
The Blue Ridge Dryland Challenge will again be the 3rd Sunday of January (17th). AND club members will get a discount on the entry fee.  Reg. $15.00  Club member $12.00
That saturday (16th) Jeff Blewett is working on combining a mini sled dog conference into the weekend.  HE is working on getting vendors and sponsors. IF YOU CAN HELP in any way please contact Jeff -  kymusher@yahoo.com

The Meet the Mushers Dinner will have Bill Borden- Iditarod finisher  as guest speaker this year.  Those of you who attended last year will remember Bill had an exciting and fun auction for us as auctioneer.

*CANINE WEIGHT PULL CLASS to be given by www.fullpullkennels.com will be set before the end of the year.  $10.00 fee to offset their expenses.

By Laws

Ӣ To promote public interest in and the understanding of, the sport of sled dog mushing (which refers

to racing, recreational mushing and other types of pulling or exercising your dog).

ӢTo promote the humane and responsible care, ethical treatment, training and driving of sled dogs.

ӢTo promote to the public the importance of providing exercise to meet the needs and energy level of

an athletic working dog.

Ӣ To encourage good sportsmanship and fair play.

Ӣ To educate mushers and the general public about the sport.

Ӣ To mentor novice mushers.

Ӣ To share techniques, ideas and socialize with other members.

Ӣ To volunteer to help on an individual basis with events and activities - may include fund raising.

Ӣ To represent the club with the highest regard and utmost respect.
